The theme fo BHSM in 2022 is "Connecting People." Whether you need to have your haring checked or you care looking for custom hearing protection, see a hearing health professional for assistance.
Every May, the American-Speech-Language Hearing Association raises awareness about hearing and communication by celebrating Better Hearing and Speech Month (BHSM). The theme for 2022 is, “Connecting People.”
Hearing and communication are vital ways we experience the world and connect with the people we love. For many people, communication is difficult because of hearing loss or speech conditions. In fact, more than 48 million people in the U.S. experience some degree of hearing loss, and 1 in 10 Americans have some type of communication disorder.
How You Can Better Your Hearing
Your hearing health is important, that’s why it is so important to take care of your hearing now and for the future. Be proactive about your hearing health and help us spread awareness for Better Hearing and Speech Month!
Wear Hearing Protection
Noise-induced hearing loss is one of the most common types of hearing loss. You may not realize it, but you are likely exposed to dangerously loud sounds at times. Any sound over 85 decibels can be harmful to your hearing, leading to hearing loss. This includes live music, fireworks, lawn mowers, motorcycles, and power tools. It’s crucial to wear hearing protection such as earplugs to prevent noise-induced hearing loss.
Schedule Annual Hearing Exams
It’s important to have your hearing checked regularly, just like you visit a doctor every year or go to the dentist on a regular basis. A hearing health professional can test your hearing and identify any changes in your hearing. The earlier changes in hearing are detected, the more proactive you can be.
